My kids the other day literally begged me for cold baked beans on rice cakes. Every part of me winced and said no, you cant have that it’s so wrong. I need to warm the beans and you have to have toast I said over and over. They had other ideas, eventually I thought about and said ok gave it to them. In fact they got me thinking about the things we all do because they have to be done that way and that way only.
There are so many unconscious rules every where we go, the life were supposed to lead. Go to school, go to uni, get a job, get married have kids, stick at it, settle down, buy a house the list goes on. If it doesn't go to plan we can feel like failures, we limit ourselves give up on our dreams allow ourselves to be unhappy because were doing what were supposed to do, why?
Endless constraints binding us into a life of submission as apposed to a life on a mission our own mission. Dreams being stamped on as soon as the idea comes up.Ranging from hugely inspired things to little things.
For example inspired self “I have a message I feel I want to share with the world” critical self “Ohh no you can’t do that, who do you think you are, what makes you think any one cares”. Or inspired self “I just love gold I want to wear it everywhere top to toe everywhere I go” critical self “stop being so pretentious, stop showing off you will look silly”.
So my thought for today is this, how many self inflicted rules are you breaking? Just remember this, it’s your life so live it your way. By all means follow the rules you want to but if there is something you desire but feel you can’t…because of…..then I would say time to take a closer look on that. This is your life so live it in your own unique style enough said.
If your kids ask for cold baked beans on rice cakes well why not. In my experience the freedom we are willing to give those around us is a clear indicator on the freedom we give ourselves, food for thought!
