How can spirituality and materialism be linked?
The word spiritual often creates a vision of an enlightened person or perhaps a hippy sitting detached perhaps on a mountain somewhere beautiful only concentration on their breath and their oneness, separate from the rest of the world. To be truly spiritual a master of this world we need to let go of our attachment to things belongings, desire and simply learn to be. Only through doing yoga eating simple food surrounding ourselves with crystals peace and nature and staying here can this fully be achieved........
Materialism, the concept of more, more, more, despite actual need and content value. Lack of care for it's workers just a desire to multiply. Little thought about it source and effects it may be having. Always a feeling of not enough no matter how much you have. Little gratitude, really it doesn't matter how rich one is it will ever be enough because the source is a feeling of lack. Like being stuck in a hamster wheel striving for more never stopping to smell the roses and enjoy the fruits. Every week searching through shops and web sites looking for the next throw away item to add to the other pile…..maybe this will be the one to make me feel better?
Of course there is an in-between that already exists but mostly we live in a divided world with the spiritual and material living separate paths each scoffing at the other. Creating chaos, disconnect political separation and a general feeling of wtf in the world!?So what if all this changed? What if the two made friends even became lovers and started living in harmony? From my view point it would look like this;
There is no separation the world is a beautiful place full of incredible things to experience. Hotels to die for with beds like temples hovering in the clouds, feather duvets so soft its like sleeping with angels. You don't need to go to a hotel to experience this you can create it at home for your daily experience. Cities filled with beautiful buildings, art shops amazing restaurants. Fabrics that feel so soft when you wear them it feels like your clothes are floating on you, cashmere, silk to name a few. Metallic leather that when made into a bag or a pair of shoes it gives you such swagger that you feel on fire, you could light up the world with your dreams and ambitions. Jewellery which is beautiful it looks like it was created by the gods themselves and then there is art which lights your heart and the rooms it is in .
The world is full of magic and wonder so why isolate ourselves from enjoying these things on a quest for spirituality and equally why destroy the energy of this magic by not truly appreciating and being in full gratitude for their existence constantly wanting more selling for the highest price. I believe that they key to harmony is in our mindsets and its the thing which can begin to make a difference, creating the changes needed for our world to be a more harmonious place. For me this is so exciting and so empowering as sometimes when i look into the world and see the political mayhem and the fighting I feel so dis-empowered whats the point what can be changed.
Mindset is a tool free to us all, we can all change our thinking or perspective our awareness. It just takes learning,practice and a bit of focus but its free to all. When we take time to be still and quiet look inwards we can then go back out into the world and experience it as a place of wonder and something to appreciate as apposed to always trying to keep up with. Our stresses have less power over us(lets face it we all have stress) and we are more inclined to connect with the positive.
If everyone decided to have a more spiritual connection to the material we would make much clearer choices about what we feel drawn to there would be less waste. The horrendous production issues in the world would be cleaned up because they are so out of alignment. Our environment would begin to recover from the toxicity and over time the economic chaos could recover itself.
Prehaps the world would be a more harmonius place to live in?
